Natural Home Recipes for Scarring
A scar is a natural part of the healing process. Scars occur when the deep thick layer of the skin (the dermis) is damaged. The worse the damage, the worse the scar is will be. The redness that follows an injury is not a scar, and won’t be permanent, however it can take a few days to several years, in extreme cases, to go away.
When a wound occurs there is a break in some of the tissue. The body heals it by producing more of a protein called collagen. Collagen build up in the place where the tissue was broken eventually helping it to close.
Scarring can occur for a number of reasons:
Bites
Scratches
Burns and Scalds
Cuts made by surgery
Accidental injury
Deliberate injury
Scars only need to be treated if you are uncomfortable with their appearance or if they cause pain. No scar can be completely removed but can be made less visible. Scars also form differently based on the location of the injury and the age of the person who was injured.
Abnormal scars can sometimes occur, often as a result of an infection in the wound, a serious burn, or loss of a large area of skin.
A hypertrophic scar is a red, raised scar the forms when healing goes on for too long. Hypertrophic scars, which cover a large area, can restrict movement because scar tissue is not as flexible as the original skin.
A keloid scar is an overgrowth of tissue when too much collagen is produced at the site of the wound. The scar keeps growing even after the wound has healed. Keloid scars push into the normal skin and hang off the skin in a sagging lump. It is estimated that only 10% of people develop Keloid scars.
